Chef Hailey Waggener, 6, added a good dose of sugar to her berries at lunch yesterday. The blueberries are local to Edmonton. The strawberries are from off, but she decided to add them to her dish anyway. It's a tradition in our house to bring in fresh blueberries whenever we can in support of my home county, where the 1995 startup of this region's blueberry crop began. In 2003 ColumbiaMagazine.com ran the story at this link on Larry Martin and Jean Daniels startup of Metcalfe County's Bluegrass Blueberries with the question, 'could blueberries replace tobacco in the region?'
