The predicted thunderstorm is sounding outside my window as I upload my neighbor Sandy's pretty flower picture, and I'm hoping a heavy rain won't destroy the blossoms. I never knew I appreciated Coneflowers before noticing them flourish on my street this summer and they now have my attention and appreciation. -LW

Denise Fudge, Vice President of Education Outreach, reminded members of the Chamber of Commerce at the Tuesday lunch meeting that it is time to begin thinking and shopping for the 2018 Operation Christmas Child program. She gave the statistics of the past highly successful program and said at least three Lindsey Wilson College students had been recipients of an Operation Christmas Child gift box in their youth and that it had been very meaningful to them. She presented a sample box and shared what she packed inside for usefulness, and for fun, for a child. She said the most important thing was the love shared.

Could your family host an international student?

Sabine Eastham, director of Lindsey Wilson College's international education program, appealed to the attendees at the July 10, 2018 Chamber of Commerce lunch to ask themselves, "Could our family host an international student?" She said yes, any size or style family can host a student because just as every family is different in they way they live, so are host families -- some celebrate with official events, others casual, some just attend and cheer at sports games their student might be in, and all combine to show students from other countries how life is lived in America. She reminded the audience that LWC houses the students, none of them require living in with a family. All engagement with students are at the host family's choosing. - LW
