It's Opening Day at the 2018 York Fair in York, PA where Columbia native Bryan Blair is the new Chief Operating Officer. The Fair is 31st largest fair in North America with an annual attendance of almost 575,000 over 11 days. The York Fair is also America's First Fair, having been founded in 1765 and the grounds feature many buildings that are over 150 years old. The Fairgrounds features 117 acres and 17 buildings including the large grandstand of which the back is shown in this photo. Built in 1926 it features 11,000 seats all under roof and has hosted many big name concerts and dignitaries throughout the years The 2018 York Fair marks the 28th Fair that Blair has been involved in a leadership capacity. Blair will become Chief Executive Officer on or before January 1, 2019, with the retirement of current CEO Mike Froehlich. Birds of Kentucky: Turkey Vulture in flight 2018-09-07 - Shelby Co., KY - Photo by Pen. Ungainly on the ground, turkey vultures can soar rather gracefully once in the air. Wikipedia has this to say about turkey vultures: "The turkey vulture is awkward on the ground with an ungainly, hopping walk. It requires a great deal of effort to take flight, flapping its wings while pushing off the ground and hopping with its feet. While soaring, the turkey vulture holds its wings in a shallow V-shape and often tips from side to side, frequently causing the gray flight feathers to appear silvery as they catch the light. The flight of the turkey vulture is an example of static soaring flight, in which it flaps its wings very infrequently, and takes advantage of rising thermals to stay soaring."
