Squarecrows have given us lasting memories: Pumpkin Butt
2018-09-12 - Historic Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo from HOSA, Adair County High School. This encore photo generated more laughter than anything in recent memory. The award-winning Squarecrow referred to as 'Pumpkin-Butt' put smiles on the faces of
hundreds of visitors of all ages to the historic Adair County Public Square in October 2015. Pumpkin-Butt was aimed, strategically - innocently or by design - into the faces of oncoming traffic -- and it got howls of laughter. The creative group entering this nurse/patient pumpkin duo was HOSA – Future Health Professionals at Adair County High School. It's Squarecrow time again. Coveted "Squarespots," like this one, are now being reserved for the 2018 exhibit. For more information, stop by the Chamber of Commerce office, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. Malvina Farkle day volunteers brighten Fountain Plaza
2018-09-12 - Fountain Plaza - One Hundred Quadrant, Public Square, Down Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Mary Anne Loy, at right, advised Lindsey Wilson College Malvina Farkle Day volunteers as to cleanup needs around the fountain on the square. The students are team members who add their strength to tough tasks needed regularly to brighten the area shared by the public. The one-way/yield sign at left remains beat up and crooked -- whenever anyone asks for it to be corrected they hear, "that's the state" -- so if anyone from state government is reading this, please, the citizens of Adair County need a corrected sign facing Greensburg Street on Columbia's public square.

2018-09-12 - Roadside Park, 2310 Hwy 55 South, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Josh Karnes was the surprise guest at the Columbia/Adair County 2018 Annual Picnic who answered the call, "Is there an auctioneer in the house"? He works full time for Clark Distribution and in his spare time he said, does "a little auctioneering." He got many words of thanks and praise for how well he conducted the auction, how he prompted for the next bid, waited, then moved the bidding forward in the fundraiser at the Picnic where proceeds go to help maintain the park. - LW
