Derby wins first place in Summerfest contest

First place winner in the Edmonton Summerfest dog contest Saturday was Derby, a Miniature Schnauzer, escorted by Cade Button. Derby likes riding the golf cart, played "Sandy" in the play Annie, and can catch treats in the air. Derby was dolled up to be the best man in his friend's wedding. He was dressed in his best tuxedo.

The onslaught of cicadas has affected more than just people this year. I've seen tons of birds snacking on them, but the butterflies seem to have been landing closer to people more often, maybe just because all the usual available perches have been so full of Brood XIV.

Jennifer Bersaglia has been named director of choral activities at Lindsey Wilson College, which will become Lindsey Wilson University on July 1, 2025. The Somerset, Kentucky, resident comes to Lindsey Wilson with an impressive resume of musical expertise and experiences, including more than two decades of teaching music.

Scenic Metcalfe County, KY - on Lone Star Ridge

You can't climb up the fire tower on Lone Star Ridge any more but it was once a very important perch to help keep the rolling hills safe. It was also a great visitor attraction, especially among high school kids.
