Colorful Skies Over Trinity Church, Adair County 2018-12-16 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Robert Ellis. I was heading back home Saturday after several hours traipsing about with my camera, when I first spotted this rainbow effect in the skies around the Dollar General Store. I had planned to head home to try and spot it from the top of Beechtop Road, but elected to venture off Highway 55 and pull over onto the driveway that leads to Trinity Church. I ruled out Sun Dog since they usually appear to the left or right (sometimes both) on either side of the Sun; in this case my camera is pointing in the opposite direction of the Sun. It doesn't quite qualify as a rainbow either since it wasn't raining there at the color source. The pinkish skies the trees are located in hint at the cause of the colorization...atmospheric conditions, I suspect are the cause of the phenomenon. --ROBERT ELLIS.
