These interesting rust colored mushrooms were growing along the walk on Fortune Street in Columbia today. Anyone have knowledge of whether they're edible or not? - LW

Congratulations Graham Waggener on first solo flight

2019-01-05 - Louisville, KY - Photo by proud Mom, Amy Waggener.
Today is a celebration day in our family. Jonathan Graham Waggener, the grandchild the Smith family calls "Little Ed," made his first solo flight at Bowman Field in Louisville, KY where he has been taking lessons. When he began the program, his granddad (who was afraid of heights) plugged up his ears and couldn't hear about any planned flights until Graham was safely back on the ground. As we cheer Graham on, we give thanks for his safe first landing, and wish him many more! He is the son of Pen and Amy Waggener, Shelbyville; and grandson of Linda and the late Ed Waggener, Columbia; and Ken and Kay Smith of Ashland.

Sunshine on water and greens after many rains

2019-01-05 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
We have full, beautiful sunshine today, Saturday, January 5, 2018 - a real treat after many gray days of this new year. This picture is from within the city, actually a ditch, not a small creek as the running water might indicate. The greens and the water in the sun make me smile. Happy weekend. - LW

Bryce Canyon National Park

2019-01-04 - Bryce, UT - Photo courtesy National Parks Service.
The view from Yovimpa Point in Bryce Canyon National Park, in southwestern Utah.

According to Wikipedia, Bryce Canyon, "despite its name, is not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau."
