Weather in town at 2pmCT Tuesday, February 12, 2019
2019-02-12 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The warmer temperatures keep this continuing downpour from being snow, that's a good thing. This is the view of Jamestown Street looking toward the Public Square in Columbia, KY at 2pmCT on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. We are under a high-wind advisory and first responders are giving traffic advisories due to water over some roads in places that are vulnerable to it in times of heavy rain -- and they remind everyone to "turn around, don't drown."

Mirrored image of Arnold building in LWC building window
2019-02-12 - Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler, columbiamagazine.com. The mirrored image of downtown buildings was too good to pass up on this day full of fog and rain. The building, at left, owned by Lindsey Wilson College, offers great window space for college artwork. The quote, part of the Adair County Health Department Smoke Free campaign, is pretty good too. (If you read backwards in the top left, it announces that the music store is coming soon. That's good news for the square.)

Adair County Teacher Evelyn Hughes remembered
2019-02-12 - Adair County, KY - Photo from Hughes family collection. Teacher Evelyn Hughes kept albums containing school pictures many of her students had given her. Her nephew Sammy Hughes, teacher at Adair County Middle School, brought them to a recent meeting of the Adair Heritage Association at the Adair Public Library. She was the youngest of seven children born to Samuel Zack Hughes and Effie Staton Hughes of the Rockhouse Bottom/Crocus areas of Russell and Adair Counties. Sammy Hughes said there was a lot of Native American heritage on the Staton side, Evelyn's grandmother spoke Cherokee. She taught first at Knifley, then Flatwoods Rosenwald School and then John Adair fourth and fifth grades.
