Everything is blooming and growing but I wonder if they will survive the freeze predicted for this evening, Sunday, March 31, 2019 drop in temps? The National Weather Service in Louisville says our area will experience a hard freeze. Under clear skies and with light winds, temperatures are forecast to drop into the mid to upper 20s tonight into Monday morning. A hard freeze is likely, posing a threat to sensitive vegetation. The Columbia Police Department announced at a recent City Council meeting that ABC funds designated to be used for law enforcement have been used to place radar equipment in every vehicle as a means of helping curb speeding in the city. In this picture, Sgt Jr Murphy demonstrated equipment capabilities to monitor vehicle speeds in both lanes of traffic on busy Hwy 61/Burkesville Street between downtown and New Columbia. Some of the recent speeding traffic stops using the new equipment have resulted in discoveries of illegal drugs, helping with the challenge of enforcement of using and moving contraband. Taylor, Wilkerson win bicycles for perfect attendance 2019-03-31 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Paula Garrison. Congratulations to Payten Taylor and Kayden Wilkerson. Their names were drawn from the pool of students who had perfect attendance from the end of Christmas Break in January until the Friday before Spring Break. They are pictured with Joe Flowers, Paul Smith, and Robert Flowers, local Shriners. The bicycles were donated by local Mark Twain Club/Shriners and the helmets were donated by J.O.Y. Ministries. Our last giveaway will be at the end of the school year. All students who have perfect attendance from April 8th to May 23rd will be in the next drawing. Anita Goode, Special Education Director in Adair County public schools, was granted permission to bring her little dog Jeb to the March meeting of the Board of Education. She said Jeb had his photo made a year ago at a meeting when he was a puppy. He is about a year and a half old now.
