Found! Has anyone seen Baby Girl?

2019-06-26 - Columbia, KY - Photo Melanie Miller.
Update on Baby Girl: "She has been found. Thanks for posting and thanks especially to the two ladies that found her and stayed with her until we got there to get her."

I took my dog (German Shepherd) to the vet in Columbia this morning and when we opened the door to get her out, she jumped out and took off. Anyone that lives around Hurt St., please keep an eye out for her. She goes by the name "Baby Girl". If you find her, please contact Jeff Miller or Melanie Miller on Facebook or email mmiller@a1gate.com, or you can call 270-250-2633 or 270-566-2633 or (A-1 Gate Co.) 270-384-1203.

Adair County Fiscal Court finalizes Sunday alcohol sales

2019-06-25 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler.
Sunday alcohol sales passed with a majority of votes by the fiscal court this afternoon. Included on the agenda for the second meeting of June was the "2nd Reading of ABC Ordinance Amendment" which, after several tries during the past couple years, permitted the county to go "wet" on Sundays. With all magistrates present, Chris Reeder made the motion to approve the action and Greg Caldwell seconded it. It passed with a 5-2 margin - Sammy Baker voted no and Billy Coffey abstained.

Aerospace program at ACHS celebrated at Board meeting

2019-06-25 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
David Taylor and his wife Kristi proudly stood with their son, Nick, at the June School Board meeting where the high school's Aerospace CTE program was highlighted. Both Nick, a 2018 graduate, and senior Clayton Janes have received their pilots licenses after going through the program.

David, Allen and Nelda Taylor's son, remembered his own days at ACHS. He said he has a hard time believing that 30 years have passed since then - however their upcoming 30 year class reunion is proof that it has. He commented that he enjoys it when his former ACHS classmate, Pen Waggener, runs one of his Dad Ed's Around Adair columns from the 70s and 80s. He remembers hearing about many of those happenings at the time.

Interestingly, both David and Pen grew up to raise sons of their own who would choose the Aerospace programs at their respective high schools in Adair and Shelby Counties and cross paths at Eastern Kentucky University where pilots are being trained as fast as possible to address the shortage of men and women who can fill that job.
