Adair FFA Smoker and Trailer

This large BBQ smoker and custom-built trailer submitted by the Adair County FFA were also ribbon winners at the fair. The display of items will be in the South Wing of the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center throughout the fair, which runs through August 25, 2019.

Lots of ribbons for tractor project

The 1958 Farmall Cub that the Adair County FFA Chapter restored for Don and Betty Knifley is now adorned with ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair. The project has pride-of-place in the giant FFA section in the South Wing, and was attracting a steady stream of admirers on Friday.

City donates funds to Family Resource Center

A check was presented Friday to the Adair County Public School Family Resource Center for $2,270.50. This was raised through sponsors and donations to the Back To School event by the City of Columbia staff and Columbia Police Department. The monies will be used for the backpack program to send food home with children on weekends. Pictured are: CPD Chief Jason Cross, Kara Iqbal, Jaime White, Debbie Cowan, Mayor Pam Hoots, Paula Garrison, Tiffany Collins, Jada Atwood and Ann Marie Austin.

A pork chop sandwich from the Kentucky Pork Producers Association booth in the cookout tent at the Kentucky State Fair. It turns out, there's a near identical selection of Kentucky-grown pork, beef, and fish for sale inside the air conditioned South Wing.

Bank of Columbia promotes Michelle Powell

Michelle Powell has been promoted to Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Columbia. President and CEO Mark Dykes said, "Michelle is vital to our loan operations in her position as credit officer, handling credit analysis and loan review." She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Western Kentucky University and has been a part of the Bank of Columbia team for more than 12 years.

Tennis courts improved in City Park on Fairgrounds Street

Tennis courts have gotten much needed improvement in the City Park that sits in the middle of the old Fairgrounds by the Pavilion. The Parks and Recreation team has announced the tennis courts are newly repaired, sealed and striped - ready for use.

John Chowning comments on Taylor County's future

John E. Chowning is a founding member of the Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority, having served on the board for over two decades since the city and county (and surrounding counties) lost thousands of jobs when Fruit of the Loom closed. In the ensuing years, Team Taylor County has led the growth beyond expectations in numbers of families having opportunities for better jobs and furthering their educations. The accompanying story includes reflections on Taylor County’s economic development strategies, workforce partnerships, community assets and biggest opportunities.
