95th Birthday celebration honors Adair native Stanley Parnell

Adair County native and WWII Veteran, Stanley Parnell, at left, was recently given a surprise party to celebrate his 95th birthday! He is pictured with his six siblings who range in ages from 81 to 93 and are all going strong. From left are: Jesse Parnell, Del Parnell Westerfield (the only girl!), Willard Parnell, Harmon Parnell, Allan Parnell and Lewis Parnell. Stanley lives in Elizabethtown, KY so the celebration was held there and his out of town children came in from Texas and Paducah. Jesse and Del came in from Indianapolis; Harmon and Lewis from Columbia; Allan and Willard from Louisville. The brothers and their one sister grew up in Sparksville in southern Adair County. KY.

Butterfly enjoying the butterfly bush flowers

Butterfly bushes are never more lovely than when they are doing their work of attracting and feeding the beautiful butterflies they are meant for. This Eastern Tiger Swallowtail was not bothered by a photographer.

Taylor Baptist WMU meets at Saloma Baptist Church

The Taylor County Baptist Association WMU came together August 17, 2019 at Saloma Baptist Church for their annual meeting. Mrs. Frances Peters and the SBC WMU hosted the meeting. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal, a good crowd, great fellowship, and an inspiring message. Some of those attending the Taylor County Baptist Association WMU meeting included, from left: Ms. Liz Encenia, executive director of the Kentucky Baptist WMU; Mrs. Zola Roy, member of Saloma Baptist Church; Mrs. Bonnie Langlois, president of the Taylor County Baptist Association WMU; and Rev. Bob Langlois, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church and Director of Mission of Taylor County Baptist Association.

Kentucky Baptist WMU executive director speaks at Taylor County

The executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Woman's Missionary Union (WMU), Ms. Liz Encenia, was the featured speaker at the August 17, 2019 annual meeting of the Taylor County Baptist Association WMU. The event was held at Saloma Baptist Church. The WMU assists churches in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy of missions so a church can fulfill its mission in the world.
Reminder: Next Sunday, August 25, 2019, is Homecoming Day at Saloma Baptist Church. Everyone is invited.

Special needs dog waiting for a caring home

This sweet sole is up for adoption at the Green River Animal Shelter (GRAS). She is a Lab, up in years, but boy is she a sweetheart. She needs a forever home to live out the rest of her years. She can't hear the best or see the best but she gets around like no one's business. She is great with everything and loves people and affection. In all the years of news coverage, food was among those things central to the writings of Ed Waggener. Here, he wrote on the photo, "I like the food at Angels' ... - s/Ed Waggener." Angels Cafe was located on Campbellsville Street in the 70s.

Kentucky Color: Bingo!

For years it has been rumored that Great Wooded South University's Genetic Research Department has had some success enhancing the size of animals. Now, finally we have proof! After days and days of searching in response to reported sightings of a giant rabbit in the Highland communities of Sparksville and Breeding, bingo! I sure hope the geniuses at GWSU know what they are doing and I will be forever grateful that rabbits are vegetarian!
