Scenic Kentucky: Irvington Coaling Tower

2019-08-27 - Breckinridge Co., KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler.
Just like most of Kentucky's 120 counties, the history of Breckinridge is captivating. The county was named for John Breckinridge (1760-1806), a Kentucky Attorney General, state legislator, United States Senator, and United States Attorney General. Divided from vast Virginia at that time, it was only the 38th Kentucky county in order of formation. Pictured is an old coaling tower.

Scenic Kentucky: Irvington Grain Silos

2019-08-27 - Breckinridge Co., KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler.
Traveling through Kentucky on a rain-soaked day with phenomenal cloud coverage, we found ourselves in Irvington, a city in Breckinridge County. The train tracks were stunning and make me forever sad that Adair was never able to obtain the type of transport. Near the CSX tracks sits a pair of old grain silos.

UFO: Unidentified Floating Object

2019-08-27 - Clarksville, IN - Photo by Pen.
I spotted what I at first thought were small crawdads swimming along the bottom of shallow pools alongside the Ohio River at the Falls of the Ohio State Park, but when I checked my camera later, I did not recognize the tiny creatures in the photos. Any ID would be appreicated. --Pen

Beautiful Gradyville Morning Glories in the rain

2019-08-26 - Western Adair County, KY - Photo by Betsy Fausnaugh.
Joyce Coomer's appeal to protect the Morning Glories by those who mow in downtown Columbia reminded me of this artful photo of Betsy Fausnaugh's Gradyville crop shared in 2008. She noted it was made after a summer rain. - LW

Letter: Roberts angry about trashed public area

2019-08-26 - Columbia - Photo by James Roberts.
"I just wanted to let viewers see what the parking lot at Columbia IGA looked like a few mornings ago. There is no cause for anyone to leave anything looking such a mess. Those who do this should be ashamed leaving such a mess in a parking lot that doesn’t even belong to them! I wonder if they do this at home? I doubt it! If they can’t put litter in its place then don’t throw it out onto someone else’s property! Take it home and throw it out in your yard and see how far that goes!"
Just the way I was raised and see it,
James Roberts
