Gary Roy, Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston advised him, "Never say you won't be back - I retired in 2017 and the next year I was campaigning for Sheriff of Russell County. Let the good Lord lead you." The Russell County office hired Gary first, he was a native of Patty Ridge Road. Later he was hired by the Columbia Police Department.
