Questions about zoning decisions at City Council meeting

Dustin Brockman, left, and John Rarey spoke to respectfully challenge the Planning and Zoning denial of the change from R2-low moderate density residential to C2-Highway oriented commercial property at the September Columbia City Council Meeting. The businessmen’s question was, “ how can it be denied when there are businesses all around” Brockman’s property. Council members voted to table the issue until more information can be studied with P&Z representatives.

Adair County Arts Council local art exhibit on now

The Adair County Arts Council exhibit of works by local artists is underway in the Lucretia C. Begley Gallery in the Slider Humanities Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College. Included in the works is this one by Tim Smith, art professor and President of the Arts Council. Works included are by artists: Darlene Campbell, Linda Cundiff, Cayce Davenport, David Goguen, Victoria Harp, Jennifer Jimtnez, Dr. Kyle Mann, Joy McAlpine, Cora Renfro, Dwight Renfro, Renee Renfro, Elizabeth Rexroat, Rachel M. Roberts, Gerri Reynolds, Karen L. Roland, Tim Smith and David Waltz. The exhibit is free and open to the public now through September 20, 2019 - open to the public from 8am to 5pmCT Monday through Friday. A reception will be held at 6pmCT Thursday, September 19, 2019.

Sixth Grade ACMS Students of the Month

The Sixth Grade ACMS Students of the Month are from left: Edward Isaacs - Science, Kayden Bennett - Reading, Myla Curry - Math, Bryce Russell - Reading, Gen Miles - Social Studies, Elizabeth Studer - Science, Kiley Parker - Math, Xavier Rodriquez - Social Studies and, not pictured Dillon Godsey-England - Band. Students are chosen for a variety of standards such as academics, good citizenship, ACMS PRIDE, etc.

Jetson Grant selected ACMS Student of the Month

Jetson Grant is the Adair County Middle School Student of the Month. The son of Andy Grant and Denise Pyles Grant, Jetson is an 8th Grader at ACMS. He was a member of the 2018-19 ACHS Swim Team and active in his church youth group. Jetson maintains Honor Roll Status at ACMS. He is always there to support a friend or to help anyone who needs a pick me up! Jetson spent part of his summer vacation doing mission work in Jamaica with a group from his church. He is quick with a smile and a kind word. He is a hard worker and a great role model for other students. We can't wait to see what his future holds! - Deb

Old Pool House comes down

With the public pool closed long ago and buried, the Columbia City Council recently agreed to prevent vandalism that was occurring in the pool house still standing and tear it down. Jonathan Brockman, owner of Brockman Contracting, began the job this week. Unfortunately several hives of angry red wasps were disturbed in the process and required cans of preventative spray.
