Epicurean Kentuckian: first quiche

2021-01-13 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Phil Hanna.
Phil Hanna shares his "first quiche" with social media friends and says it was "not bad." He writes, "I used broccoli as the veggy. I'd add a little more cheese, fewer potatoes, but I have another crust to work with.

Public can help by separating, marking recyclables

2021-01-13 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The Adair County Recycling Center has been covered up lately. We still have no inmate labor and we are receiving recycling from other counties as far as Cave City due to COVID-19 and their recycling centers being closed. The two weeks after Christmas people were backed up to the road dropping off recycling.

We have one full time employee and two part time currently (one will be returning to school later this week) that are trying to keep up with the demand. We have had one baler out of service since the week before Christmas that is primarily used for cardboard that we are having trouble finding someone to fix.

We receive truckloads of cardboard weekly from businesses and that have only amplified since the holidays. The employees have been coming in on the days the recycling center is not open to the public to keep up with demand.

The best way the public can help is to separate all recyclable items and mark them correctly so it takes less time to sort them all.

Bridget Compton, Adair County Fiscal Court Clerk,
Solid Waste Coordinator

CHOMPING MY BITS FOR LAUGHTER
(Present for my wife, Billie on our anniversary)

Send me back for a moment to my days of innocence.
"Ike" was President - flocks of free roaming chickens.
Ever so careful with each step that was taken.
Now everyone totally coming unglued in every direction.

Plow mules out in the pasture - calmly at peace, grassing.
Tractors a rarity but protective neighbors so friendly.
Scarcely an unidentified car passenger - no drug trafficking.
Sitting in my 'Man Room' - 'chomping my bits' for laughter.

Mama Cat doesn't need a new home but if she did, she couldn't qualify for today's request by Nan Fudge for a female kitten under a year old. Mama Cat is a female of some age, sophisticated and savvy, and is pictured here policing the sun roof atop her Franklin Ford Honda. To see Nan's request for a kitten, click 'read more'.
