The date the Greensburg Arts Council dedicated the statue of Jane Todd Crawford was the date that had been declared as her day. Former Kentucky Gov. Bert Combs proclaimed December 13th as Jane Todd Crawford Day in the state and urged that all citizens observe that day with fitting and appropriate ceremonies in honor of this great Kentucky woman. In his proclamation, Governor Combs points to the "special importance in the medical-surgical field of the first successful abdominal operation which was performed upon Mrs. Jane Todd Crawford by Dr. Ephraim McDowell.
