Travel: Lindholm Hill Viking Burial Grounds
2025-11-05 - Aalborg, Denmark - Photo by Veronica Arnold. On the Arnolds' trip, Veronica took a tour of Lindholm Hoje, a major Viking burial site and former settlement situated to the north of and overlooking the city of Aalborg in Denmark. Next door is a museum which features Viking era and iron age remains from 400ad to 900ad.
Veronica writes, "The museum inside starts with iron age artifacts and explanations of what the land was like during the early periods. The use of flint was common as access to metals wasn't common in the earth. Trade increased and then use of copper increased. Clothes changed from animal hydes to woven wool costumes.
Upstairs, the exhibits focuses more on the Viking era. Was funny to see the 'trading' that Vikings did which changed their own culture. Civilizations near coast lines were often raised by Vikings. Their jewelry and other goods were brought home to be traded within the Vikings' own society. Weird to see it from the Viking perspective. Very lovely area to view."
