Kentucky State Troopers Nick Hale and Jonathon Houk are collecting donations from the public today, Monday, April 25, 2022, at Docs Market in Columbia, for the Cover the Cruiser fundraiser for Special Olympics of Kentucky.

DARE graduation assembly at Adair Co. Elementary School

ACES students gathered in the gymnasium on Friday, April 22, 2022, for the graduation ceremony for the 2022 D.A.R.E. program.

The D.A.R.E program began in 1983 as a partnership with Los Angeles Police Department and the LA School District to teach students drug resistance education. The program was well received and quickly spread throughout the country.

DARE Graduation held at Adair Co. Elementary School

Once a week for the past 10 weeks, ACES 5th grade students have been learning about the dangers of drugs and alcohol with Columbia Police Department Officer Adam Cravens. The course culminated with their graduation on Friday, April 22, 2022, where students were recognized for their course essays and had the opportunity to pick prizes during a reward drawing.

Stare MLK Leadership Award given to Dr. John Chowning

The Kentucky Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. State Commission presented its 2022 Leadership Award Dr. John Chowning, executive assistant to the president for government, community and constituent relations at Campbellsville University. The senior pastor at Saloma Baptist Church, Chowning has been involved in many endeavors at Campbellsville University including race reconciliation and establishing Dialogue on Race, a project dear to his heart. He has served as a leader of Greater Campbellsville United, whose focus is to create an environment of equality and opportunity for all residents of Campbellsville-Taylor County and the heartland region of Kentucky.

"During my career in the church, higher education and civic engagement, I have felt a call to the ministry of building bridges across lines of race, ethnicity, language, gender and economic status and to help tear down walls and barriers that have too long separated the human race," Chowning said in accepting the honor.
