LWC Football lights up scoreboard under the lights, beats Pikeville 69-14 By Chris Wells Fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson football provided its most complete effort of the season tonight in a 69-14 win over visiting Pikeville (Ky.) at Blue Raider Stadium. The Lindsey Wilson offense racked up a single-game, program-record 661 yards while matching the fifth highest point output in the program's history with the 69 points. The Blue Raider defense recorded a season-high three takeaways and limited the Bears to two scores and 305 total yards of offense. Pikeville entered the game averaging 33.3 points and 399 yards per outing this season. The Blue Raiders (3-0) tallied the game's first 35 points and cruised to its 15th consecutive regular-season win. The Lindsey Wilson defense made the first big play of the night. Trent Mueller -- who finished with a team-high seven tackles -- forced Pikeville running back Willie McCloud to fumble. Stevie Miller jumped on the ball to end the Bears' promising drive inside Lindsey Wilson territory. The Blue Raider offense turned the turnover into a touchdown with a 7-play 73-yard drive to start the Lindsey Wilson scoring barrage. Blake Ingleton powered into the endzone with a 1-yard run to give Lindsey Wilson the early advantage. The score moved Ingleton to the top of the program's all-time rushing touchdown list with 30 touchdowns. He finished the game with his sixth career 100-yard rushing game, ending with 113 yards on 13 carries. The Ingleton score was the first of three for the senior -- all coming in different capacities. He also caught a touchdown and returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score in the win. Following back-to-back defensive stands by both teams, the Lindsey Wilson defense once again produced a big play. Miller forced a second fumble on the night after Xondre Willis caught a ball out of the backfield. C.J. Dickerson recovered the fumble giving the ball back to the Lindsey Wilson offense -- who entered the game leading the Mid-South Conference in scoring at 47 points per game. The Blue Raiders needed just two plays and 44 seconds to double their lead. Following an Ingleton 7-yard run, Cameron Dukes connected with Cam Wyche on a 53-yard touchdown throw to push the lead to 14-0, following a Jared Dougherty extra point. The touchdown toss was one of five on the night for Dukes. He ended the game 12-for-15 for a career-high 281 passing yards and five touchdown throws. Wyche closed with three catches for 78 yards. Wyche was one of seven different receivers to haul in a touchdown catch in the game. It marks his third score of the season in as many games. Leading 14-0 after the first quarter, Dukes found Ingleton out of the backfield for a 33-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0. Following a forced Pikeville punt, Jaylen Boyd set a program-record with an 86-yard touchdown run to stretch the lead to 28-0. Boyd just missed the 100-yard plateau, finishing with 99 rushing yards on four carries. While the Lindsey Wilson offense was in cruise control, the Blue Raider defense recorded a pair of takeaways and forced four punts in Pikeville's first six drives allowing for separation. Following the fourth Bear punt of the night, Dukes found Hunter Watkins down the left sideline for a 52-yard strike and a 35-0 lead. Pikeville dented the scoreboard for the first time in with 22 seconds left in the first half. Derius Gibson scored from four yards out to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive to cut the deficit to 35-7. Lindsey Wilson was not done with the first-half scoring. After a pop-up kick, the Blue Raiders began their final drive of the half from midfield. It took just nine seconds for Dukes and Jordan Lasley to produce a seventh touchdown of the half. Dukes hit Lasley in stride across the middle and Lasley did the rest, sprinting to the endzone for his first career touchdown and a 41-7 halftime lead. The Blue Raiders continued their dominance in the second half. Dukes connected with Jay Gaudlock on a 9-yard touchdown toss to complete an 11-play, 81-yard drive out of the locker room for a 48-7 lead. Payton Veraldi relieved Dukes in the third quarter to throw for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Veraldi hooked up with Boyd and Jaron Puckett for touchdowns in the quarter to extend the Lindsey Wilson lead to 62-7. Following a Pikeville touchdown drive, Ingleton recorded the program's ninth kickoff return for a score to close the night's scoring. Six different Blue Raiders recorded five tackles in the game in a balanced defensive effort. Pikeville -- who has the reputation of beating teams deep -- ended the night with just one pass completion over 20 yards. Lindsey Wilson finished with two sacks and six tackles for a loss. The Blue Raider offensive line did not allow a sack in the win. This story was posted on 2018-09-17 06:25:15
