COLUMBIA, KY - (Wed 22 Aug 2018)Top-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball blitzed visiting Asbury (KY in three sets to win its 2018 home-opener tonight at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (2-0) backed up their .589 hitting performance in Tuesday's season-opening win at Fisk (Tenn.) with another offensive clinic in the 25-14, 25-12, 25-16 win. Lindsey Wilson posted a .431 team attack as six different Blue Raiders hit north of .300 in the match.

Lindsey Wilson was sluggish out of the gates in front of a raucous crowd as Asbury (0-1) scored five of the first six points in the opening set. The Blue Raiders responded with a 13-1 spurt to take a 14-6 lead midway through the set.

Lindsey Wilson coasted the remainder of the set to take the opener 25-14. Alexis Smith led the Blue Raiders in the opening set with four kills in as many attempts.

Sarah Cruz steered Lindsey Wilson to a 25-12 second-set win.

Cruz pounded out six kills as the Blue Raiders never trailed in the second frame. Lindsey Wilson led 8-3 and 15-5 in the second set before building as much as a 13-point lead. Cruz finished with a match-high 10 kills to go along with her .529 hitting percentage.

While the Lindsey Wilson offense was rolling in the set, the Blue Raider defense was even more impressive. Lindsey Wilson forced Asbury into nine errors while limiting the Eagles to just four kills for a -.139 second-set hitting percentage.

Asbury finished the match hitting just .012 as the Blue Raiders tallied 22 team block assists in the match.

The Blue Raiders had their most efficient offensive performance in the third set. Lindsey Wilson produced 15 kills while committing just two errors for a .591 attack in the set.

Grace Blomstedt recorded five of her nine kills in the set while Paulina Sobolewska and Nathalya De Souza each added three.

Asbury remained close for much of the set, trailing 12-10 near the midway point. However, a patented Lindsey Wilson run -- an 8-3 spurt -- to the close out the set, secured the sweep.

Abby Grubbs opened her Biggers Sports Center career with a match-high 27 assists. Blomstedt and Lilo Larzelere led the defense -- Blomstedt finished with eight block assists and Larzelere posted 12 digs.

The win extends Lindsey Wilson winning streak to 37 straight, dating back to last season. The Blue Raiders have won a program-record 64 straight at home.
