Velta Brown, 82, Russell Springs, KY (1935-2018)

Velta was a cook in the Russell County School System and a member of the Free Union Separate Baptist Church. She was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Russell County, KY, at the time of her death. She was a member of a respected family, the daughter of Ada Bell Wilson Bailey, who survives, and the late widow of Oris Bailey. She leaves seven direct living descendants. Her final resting place will in her native Adair County, at Free Union Cemetery, beside her church.

Velta Brown, 82, of Russell Springs, KY died Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs.

Funeral service for Velta Brown will be 1pmCT, Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Free Union Separate Baptist Church, 4642 Sano Road, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Dale Brown, Bro. Dustin McGowan, and Bro. Johnny Hood officiating. Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT, Tuesday, July 3 and after 9amCT, until funeral time at 1pmCT, Wednesday, at the Free Union Separate Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Free Union Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ethan Brown, Nicholas Dabney, Darren Brown, Billy Carroll, Mark Collins, Charles Shepherd, Austin Ricketts.



Velta Brown, 82, Russell County, KY/Adair County native (1935-2018)


She was born July 30, 1935, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Oris Bailey & Ada Bell Wilson Bailey, who survives. She died Sunday, July 1, 2018, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age 82 years, 11 months, and one day.

Velta was a cook in the Russell County School System and a member of the Free Union Separate Baptist Church in Adair County, KY.

In addition to her father, Velta was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brown.

Survivors include:
  • Two children: Lisa Jo (Tony) Hart Jeffrey (Melissa) Brown, all of Russell Springs, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Nicholas Dabney, Bailey Nicole Brown, Erin Brooke Ricketts, and Shelby Rodgers

  • One great-grandchild: Phoenix Dabney

  • One sister: Julia D. Collins

  • Her mother: Ada B. Bailey
