JDGee: The showy, snowy white iris. A Russell County love story Treasured snowy, showy white iris, now as background story of a great Russell County love story. Click on headline for story with photo(s) By JDGee A few days ago I posted elsewhere photos of our iris, including a showy, snowy white. With that one, I added hat tip to my lifelong Russell County friend who gifted to us a start of it several years ago. In response to the hat tip, she sent (via private message) a narrative which speaks to the heart about the love her father, a well-known and much-loved physician, had for her mother. My friend's comments are included here with her permission: "Daddy loved to take flowers to Mom, whom he called his beautiful old woman in later years. He would bring her frozen dandelions if that was all he could find. The only flowers he ever bought were for their wedding day but she had more flowers than any person I ever knew of. She loved flowering plants and he would bring home starts from old farm houses, country roads, fields, the banks of the Cumberland River--any place he might be. He had a huge family base too. Remember he made lots of home calls and took the Jeeps in places no sane man would go.- JDGee This story was posted on 2018-05-21 11:53:43
