LWC Celebrates the Best and Brightest at Honors Convocation

LWC's 107th commencement ceremony will be at 10amCT, Saturday, May 12, 2018, in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Lindsey Wilson College community honored the academic accomplishments of the 2017-18 school year Tuesday afternoon, April 24, at the college's annual Honors Convocation.

Held in Biggers Sports Center, the event included more than four dozen departmental and college-wide awards. The top graduating senior was named, a new John B. Begley Scholar and the top professors of the year were recognized. The Student Government Association organization of the year was also recognized.


LWC education senior Abigail Biddle from Elizabethtown, Ky., received the President's Award, which is presented to the graduating senior who in the opinion of the LWC president best embodies the LWC mission.

LWC biology senior Jacob Burroughs from Radcliff, Ky. was honored as a returning Begley Scholar. The John B. Begley Scholarship is the college's most prestigious undergraduate scholarship.

Associate Professor of Nursing Ashley Hancock was named Teacher of the Year by the LWC SGA; and Instructor of Nursing Kristen Branham received the Exemplary Teacher Award from The United Methodist Church Division of Higher Education.

The Lindsey Wilson Singers were named the top student organization by the LWC Student Government Association. For more than 20 years, the Lindsey Wilson Singers have toured throughout the United States and Europe, giving concerts in more than three dozen states and six countries. Members of the Lindsey Wilson Singers often credit the tours as life-changing experiences. The LWC Singers are directed by Associate Professor of Music Gerald Chafin.

Several student groups and academic honor societies were also recognized.

Hancock named Teacher of the Year by Lindsey SGA

LWC Associate Professor of Nursing Ashley Hancock was named Teacher of the Year by the LWC SGA. The award is determined by the Lindsey Wilson student body. Student Government Association President Morgan Sexton presented the award.

Branham receives Exemplary Teacher Award

LWC Instructor of Nursing Kristen Branham received the Exemplary Teacher Award from The United Methodist Church Division of Higher Education. Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Parrish presented the award.
