Coming to LWC, Mary Hamilton's true tales, tall tales, folktales

By Mark Lee McKinnon, Cultural Affairs Facilitator
Lindsey Wilson College

We are preparing an exciting semester of culture and entertainment at Lindsey Wilson College, continuing to add events.

Mary Hamilton -- True tales, tall tales, folktales and more. Stories told live for ages 9-99, will be featured Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 7pmCT in Slider Recital Hall, 151 Blue Raider Drive, Columbia, KY.

Mary will provide us with a wonderful evening of traditional storytelling. Mary's book, "Kentucky Folktales: Revealing Stories, Truths, and Outright Lies," published by University Press of Kentucky in 2012, won a Storytelling World Gold in the storytelling collections category and received an Anne Izard Storytellers' Choice Award.

She has also won awards for her storytelling, including a Circle of Excellence ORACLE award from the National Storytelling Network, a Jesse Stuart Award from the Kentucky School Media Association, and a Coleen Salley Award from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Hamilton tells stories in her straightforward "just talking" style, serving up an eclectic story repertoire featuring generous helpings of Kentucky narrative traditions and world folktales along with a smidgeon of myths, tall tales, legends, fiction, and true stories. Please join us for this magical evening as we bring traditional storytelling back to Columbia.
