Mel Gilbert, 77, Taylor County, KY (1940-2018)

He professed faith in Christ & was a member of Green River Memorial Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Cox Interior & owned & operated a cleaning business for many years. He was very active in the Lions Club where he received several awards for his many years of service. He was a native of Bowling Green, KY, and a resident of Campbellsville, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the son of the late Arthur Gilbert & Lottie Howard Gilbert. His wife of 37 years, Marla Whiteley Gilbert, survives. He leaves 26 direct living descendants.

Mel Gilbert, 77, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 4:35pmET, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

The funeral service will be at 11amCT/12pmNoonET, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Jamie Bennett. Burial will be Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old U.S. 68, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Monday, January 29, 2018, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.



Mel Gilbert, Taylor County, KY (1940-2018)

Mel Gilbert was the son of the late Arthur Gilbert & Lottie Howard Gilbert. He was born April 14, 1940, in Bowling Green, Warren County. KY. He died at Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 77 years, nine months, & 11 days.

He professed faith in Christ & was a member of Green River Memorial Baptist Church.

Mel was a former employee of Cox Interior & owned & operated a cleaning business for many years. He was very active in the Lions Club where he received several awards for his many years of service.

He united in marriage to Marla Whitley February 20, 1981.

Besides his wife of thirty-seven years, Marla Gilbert, he is survived by:
  • One daughter and five sons: Lisa Blandford & husband, Tommy of Lebanon, KY; Brad Akridge & wife, Regina of Campbellsville, KY; Brian Gilbert & wife, Christy of St. Mary, GA; Greg Gilbert & wife, Lisa of Brentwood, TN; Tim Gilbert of Atlanta, GA; and Jeff Gilbert & wife; Nicole of Germany

  • Fifteen grandchildren

  • Five great-grandchildren

  • One sister: Charlotte Earls of Bowling Green, KY

  • His mother in-law, Lorene Whitley of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two brothers-in-law: Roger Whitley & wife, Kathy of Campbellsville, KY; and Robert Smith of Bowling Green, KY

  • One sister-in-law: Surple Gilbert of Gallant, TN

  • Several nieces and nephews & many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one brother & one sister, Gerald Gilbert and Patricia Smith.

The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Hosparus for the wonderful care given to the whole family.
