He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a farmer, worked at General Electric, a welder on Jeff Boat and he and his brother were in business in Louisville. He raised and showed horses. He also loved collecting antiques. He was a member of a prominent Green County, KY family. He was the son of the late Sally Edna Hayes Handy & Herbert Lewis Handy. His wife of 50 years, Marlene Weickel Handy, survives. He leaves 12 direct living descendants.

Harold Hayes Handy, 86, departed this life Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home in Simpsonville, KY.

The funeral service for Harold Handy will be at 2pmCT, Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W Court Street, Greensburg, KY, with Rev. Dale Curry the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Greensburg Cemetery with full military honors. Horse drawn carriage will be led by Rock 'n B Farm, Bowling Green, KY. Pallbearers will be Rhen Handy, Shayne Handy II, Glenn Landis, Nicholas Riggle, William Spradlin, and Greg Handy. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Gibbs and Michael Maccaferri. Visitation will be Saturday, January 27, 2018, 5pm-8pmCT and after 7amCT, Sunday, at the funeral home.

Harold Hayes Handy was born in Green County, KY. Has the son of the late Sally Edna Hayes Handy and Herbert Lewis Handy. He departed this life Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home in Simpsonville, Shelby County, KY, having attained the age of 86 years, nine months and 22 days. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a farmer, worked at General Electric, a welder on Jeff Boat and he and his brother were in business in Louisville. He raised and showed horses. He also loved collecting antiques.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son: Shawn Handy, two sisters and two brothers: Opal and Virginia Tutt, Ed and Homer Handy. He is survived by his wife of fifty years: Marlene Weickel Handy, and the following:
  • Three daughters and one son: Shannon & Michael Maccaferri of Louisville, KY; Juliet & Steven Flood of Lawrenceville, GA; Shayne Handy of Kentucky; and Jacqueline & David Spradlin of Louisville, KY

  • Three brothers and one sister: Benny and Reba Handy of Louisville, KY; Bill & Mae Handy of Greensburg, KY; Rex and Pat Handy of Columbia, KY; and Wilma Jean & Bobby Landis of Greensburg, KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Emily Flood, Rhen Handy, Shayne Handy II, Cassie Spradlin, William Spradlin, Jessica Sneed and Jillian Startzel

  • And one great grandchild: Mariah Handy
