Marshall, MO - Cam Tessari and Diorian Coleman both captured the bracket titles of their respective weight classes on Saturday during the final day of the Missouri Valley Invite held at the Burns Athletic Complex.

Brett Bradford added a third-place finish while Brady Moser, Bryce Hoffman and Corey Hinkle all turned in fifth-place finishes in their own weight brackets as LWC went 6-0 in placement matches on the day.

As a team, the Blue Raiders accumulated 124.5 points to finish in fourth place out of 35 teams in a competition that featured 29 NAIA teams that were ranked or receiving votes in the latest national poll, including the top-five ranked squads. Only Missouri Valley (157 points), Grand View (Iowa) (146) and Menlo (Calif.) (131.5) scored more points than LWC.

Tessari (ranked No. 1 at 157 pounds), who wrestled down at the 149-pound bracket, started day two with a 9-1 major decision over Grand View’s Devin Reynolds to secure a spot in the championship match. In the finals, Tessari recorded a 6-1 victory over No. 3-ranked Tyler Fraley of Williams Baptist (Ark.) to claim the title, his second-straight tournament title after winning the 157-pound bracket at the Midwest Classic back on Dec. 17.

Coleman (No. 4 at 165) grinded out a 5-3 decision win over Northwestern’s (Iowa) Andrew Null to book a spot in the finals against No. 3-ranked Andrew Simmons of Missouri Valley. The match with Simmons was tied 1-1 heading into the late stages of the third period before Coleman avoided a Simmons takedown attempt and was able to secure a takedown of his own to grab the lead and the eventual 3-1 victory.

Bradford (No. 18 at 165) won four matches on Saturday to take home third-place honors. He started by pinning Mason Gaines from Indiana Tech and then completing a 9-3 decision over Briar Cliff’s (Iowa) Chris Paulsen. An 8-2 decision over No. 9-ranked Andrew Bartel of Montana State-Northern put him into the consolation finals where he then edged out an 8-6 win over Null to take third. Bradford posted a 6-0 mark overall at the event.

Moser (No. 11 at 133) dropped his semifinal match to eventual bracket champion Gresh Jones of Dickinson State (N.D.) (No. 16 at 133) to slip into the consolations. He dropped his next match to Taylor Lehman of Waldorf (Iowa) 9-5, but bounced with an 8-2 decision over Landon Bailey of Montana State-Northern to take fifth place in the bracket.

After falling into the consolations with a loss in the quarterfinals on Friday, Hoffman proceeded to win three of his four matches on Saturday en route to taking home fifth place at 157 pounds. He began with a 5-2 decision over Jon Watkins of Indiana Tech and a tight 8-7 victory over Drew Sams of Graceland (Iowa). He suffered a 13-6 setback to 11th-ranked Kenny Boyd of Missouri Valley, but came through with a 7-5 victory over Kevin James of Menlo in the fifth-place match.

After Hinkle fell in his first match of the tournament on Friday, he bounced back by winning six of his final seven matches en route to a fifth-place finish at 197 pounds. He started Saturday with a pin over Dylan Balley of Drury (Mo.), his third-consecutive pin of the tournament. Hinkle upset No. 7-ranked Andrew Mahone of Missouri Baptist 6-2 before pinning his fourth opponent of the tournament in Jaden Davis of Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.). He fell in his next match to Eric Deluse of Cumberlands (Ky.) (No. 14 at 197), but took home fifth place after his opponent took a medical forfeit in his final match.
