SOMERSET, Ky. (Wed 17 Jan 2018; received 8:15amCT) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 crews enter their sixth straight day battling winter weather. The latest winter weather moved into our area early Tuesday morning dumping several inches of snow across the district creating covered roads and slick conditions.

With the frigid temperatures overnight road conditions remain the same as they were when the sun went down yesterday afternoon. Crews continue to work to clear roadways this morning. However, with the single digit temps our salt treatment is ineffective unless the sun comes out to heat up the roadway. Main Priority A routes are partly covered. Most Priority B and C routes were treated and plowed yesterday, but with the snow falling behind our trucks they still remain mostly covered to completely covered. We ask for folks to be patient for it will take time to clear all roads.

If motorists have to be out they need to use extreme caution.
