She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Rural Retreat, Virginia. She was a retired advertising specialist at the Orlando Sentinel in Florida, Secretary at an Army Base in Italy and at Eglin Air Force Base and advertising specialist for a newspaper in Columbia, KY. She leaves 22 direct living descendants.

Ms. Shirley Lee Babbitt, 69,departed this life Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at The Medical Center of Bowling Green, KY.

Funeral service will be at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W Court Street, Greensburg, KY, at 12pmNoonCT, Saturday, December 2, 2017. Visitation will be 3pm-7pmCT, Friday, December 1, 2017, and after 7amCT, Saturday at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home. Ministers will be Rev. Nathan Crawford and Rev. Jim Boles. Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery, 525 Temperance Road, Greensburg, KY.



Pallbearers: Robert Hawthorne, Zeb Hawthorne, Carl Hewitt, George R. Anderson III, Dillon Calhoun, and Ryan Skaggs

Honorary Pallbearers: Ledie Babbitt, Gary Calhoun, amd Leon "Pops" Miller.

Ms. Shirley Lee Babbit, 69, Green County, KY (1947-2017)


Ms. Shirley Lee Babbitt was born December 20, 1947 in Bristol, Virginia to Orman Coy Hawthorne of Greensburg, KY, & the late Lula Mae Aker Hawthorne. She died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at The Medical Center of Bowling Green, Warren County, KY, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and eight days.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Rural Retreat, Virginia. She was a retired Advertising Specialist at the Orlando Sentinel in Florida, Secretary at an Army Base in Italy and at Eglin Air Force Base and Advertising Specialist for a newspaper in Columbia, KY.

Besides her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Rutherford Anderson, Sr. and one brother, Alvin Hawthorne. She was also united in marriage to Ledie Royce Babbitt.

She is survived by:
  • Two sons and two daughters-in-law and two daughters and two sons-in-law: David James and Anissa Anderson of Greensburg, KY; George R. Anderson, Jr. and Lacey of Summersville, KY; Angela and Leo Jackson of Mt. Sherman, KY; and Candace and Trevor Calhoun of Magnolia, KY

  • Her father: Orman Coy Hawthorne of Greensburg, KY

  • Three brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law: Lester Hawthorne of Greensburg, KY; Peggy and Earl Babbitt of Cave City, KY; Ed and Kathy Hawthorne of Greensburg, KY; and Roger Hawthorne of Eufaula, AL

  • Thirteen grandchildren: Adrianna, Anastasia and Aurora Anderson, George R. Anderson III, Jessica Lynn Anderson, Emily and Abigail Wright, Isaiah, Isaac and Dalton Jackson, Anna, Lola and Rain Calhoun

  • Five great grandchildren

  • Plus a host of other relatives and friends
