Jackson Brower: Spelling didn't matter when Dale Hollow tree bear story broke Weighing in on the Spelling Issue today About: Comments re article 93280 Ralph Waggener On the subject of spelling By Jackson Brower Pennsyltuckian & one of 100s (?) of one time Waggener-Walker Newspapers Sally-forth Editor Ralph, I am picking up what your, I mean "you're," puttin' down. Spelling is kind of a hassle, but remember guys, we grew up without Spellcheck, and we used manual typewriters (preferably Royals). Yet still, the backup erase key usually did not work, right? So the fastest way to get the job done was continue to type away like a madman, then go back with a pencil-type eraser and correct all the misspelled and misstyped words with a red pencil. Gordon Crump, longtime editor of the Adair County News, and editor in chief for Waggener-Walker Newspapers, Inc, in Columbia long ago, taught me to always work with a paperback dictionary close at hand, which I still do to this day. It is more fun than Spellcheck, which I only use for words like "receive" and "inconvenience." Ralph, I remember very well your adventures in Celina and Clay County. Then, all hell (heck) broke loose; but that is another story. All the best, Pennsyltuckian Jackson Brower, formerly of Barnetts Creek, Adair County, KY. - Jackson Brower This story was posted on 2017-10-11 04:27:12
