Bonnie Jane Claywell, Adair County, KY, (1938-2017)

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was retired from Fruit of the Loom and worked in the housekeeping department at Westlake Regional Hospital for 14 years. She was the matriarch of a highly respected Adair County family. She was a native of Wayne County, KY, the daughter of the late Mert & Florence Dishman Hancock. She was the widow of Herbert Claywell.

Bonnie Jane Claywell, 79, of Columbia, KY, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 1:45amCT, at TJ Health Columbia, KY.

Funeral service will be Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Gerald Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the funeral home.



Casket bearers: Elliot Smith, Jeremy Wall, Casey Wall, Brandon White, Justin Burton, and Aaron Flanagan. Honorary Casket Bearers - Tia White, Carly Flanagan, Devin Burton and Gracie Burton.

Bonnie Jane Claywell, Adair County, KY, (1938-2017)


Bonnie was born August 26, 1938 in Wayne County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Mert & Florence Dishman Hancock. She died Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 79 years, 17 days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Claywell on February 11, 2006; five brothers, Carl, Fred, Earl, Guy & Osby Hancock; and five sisters, Doris Watson, Hazel Fulton, Bessie Hancock, Glenna Hancock & Eva Jones.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was retired from Fruit of the Loom and worked in the housekeeping department at Westlake Regional Hospital for 14 years.

Survivors include:
  • Two sons: Doyle Burton, Eric Todd Burton & his special friend, Sherry Wilson, all of Columbia, KY

  • Three daughters & sons-in- law: Lois & Leslie Sapp, Kathy & Rick Shelton, Cheryl & Jeff Wall all of Columbia, KY

  • Two sisters: Gladys Roy & Chris Neat, both of Columbia, KY

  • Ten grandchildren: Tia White, Carly Flanagan, Devin Burton, Gracie Burton, Katie Shelton, Elliot Smith, Jeremy Wall, Justin Burton, Casey Wall & Brandon Shelton

  • Ten great-grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews

  • And many other Relatives and friends
Memorials are requested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Adair County Senior Citizens Center or donations of Gideon Bibles. These may be left at the funeral home.
