Rev. Jesse R. Long, 79, Russell County, KY/Casey Co. native (1938-2017)

He was a retired Separate Baptist Minister and a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Willie Virgil & Ebbie Hicks Long, and the widower of Doris Jean Shepherd Long. He leaves 13 direct living descendants.

Rev. Jesse R. Long, 79, of Russell Springs, died Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral service for Rev. Jesse R. Long will be 10amCT, Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Rodney Smith and Bro. Clifton Cowan officiating. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT, Sunday, July 16, and and after 8amCT, Monday. Interment will be in the Gum Lick Cemetery, Clementsville, Casey County, KY.


Pallbearers: Dwayne Clements, Justin Dyer, Logan Long, Dewayne Neat, Charles Shepherd, Jack Hudson, and Donald George.

He was born April 2, 1938 in Casey County, KY. He was the son of the late Willie Virgil & Ebbie Hicks Long. He died Friday, July 14, 2017, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 79 years, two months, and 12 days.

He was a retired Separate Baptist Minister and a member of Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church in Casey County.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Shepherd Long; four brothers, Marshall, Eddie, David & Vatis Long; four sisters, Geraldine Grant, Violet Adams, Vitus Long, and Kathleen Campbell.

Survivors include:
  • Three sons: Chris (Vickie) Long Steve (Savannah) Long, and Daryl Long, all of Russell Springs, KY

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Two great grandchildren

  • One brother: Billy (Mary) Long, Cincinnati, Ohio

  • One sister: Marcella Clements, Liberty, KY
