Irene Woods Pennington of Junction City, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at her home. She was 89 years young.

Funeral services will be 10amCT/11amET, Friday, July 7, 2017 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Brother Curtis Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pmCT/5pm-9pmET, Thursday, July 6, 2017, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.



Irene's pallbearers will be: John Harlow, Tim Leito, Tony Smith, Chris Pennington, Travis Leffew and E.C. Pennington.

Honorary pallbearers are: Cindy Pennington, Judy Glasscock, Margrett Wilburn, Belinda Ford, Marybeth Hughes, Donald Tomas and Junction City United Methodist Fellowship Class.

Born September 27, 1927 in Casey County, KY, she was the daughter of the late John & Bertha LewEllen Woods. She died Tuesday, June 4, 2017, in Junction City, Boyle County, KY at the age of 89 years, nine months, and seven days.

Irene was a former employee of American Greeting. She loved to ride four-wheelers and work on the farm. Irene was a member of Junction City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include:
  • Two sons: Donnie (Cindy) Pennington and Dallas (Becky) Pennington, both of Junction City, KY

  • One daughter: Ellen Rose Thomas (and her companion Charles Lanter) of Danville, KY

  • Six grandchildren

  • Eleven great grandchildren

  • Two great-great grandchildren

  • One sister: Lorene (Thad) Allen of Liberty, KY

  • Two sisters in-law: Edna Pennington of Liberty, KY; and Virginia Cochran of Jamestown, IN

  • And several nieces, nephews and friends
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kirby Pennington, who passed away December 2004; one son, Ballard Wayne Pennington; four brothers, Cleo, Elmer, Arthur and Clyde Woods; and one sister, Lillie Overstreet.
