Daughter's birthday tribute to Great Adair Countian: A.L. Sinclair

In the author's family, he's known as Daddy and Poppy. To Southeastern Kentuckians, he's an icon of practical environmental responsility, and maybe a bit more locally, his fame is also owed to the magnificent gardens he has grown annually continuing to 2017, as he celebrates his 78th birthday. Among the Sinclair families, nothing matches food at Poppy's table or from Poppy's garden or pantry. They are so happy that he continues to Keep on keepin' on

By Debbie Sinclair

Just wanted to let all your reader know that today, July 2, 2017, is Mr. PeeWee Sinclair's Birthday! He is known by this name to pretty much all of Adair County, but to me he is DAD!

Such a small word for a great father, grandfather, and also great-grandfather.

He is bigger than life and has a heart bigger than anything.

He still, at 78, has a garden that helps feed my family almost on a daily basis, not because we can't afford food, it's because it is the best food you can imagine.

My daughter always asks at meal times, "is this Poppy' green beans or Poppy's corn" and so on.

Often I hear "We need to go to Poppy's, we are down to 6 jars of green beans," just an excuse to go there!

My niece calls him every morning just to say "Hi," and remind him she needs a horse!

Isn't anything he (or my brother) can't fix or any advice that he will give that isn't right, and, believe you me, I have asked him a lot over the years!

Doesn't always like us but always loves us unconditionally as do we him.

"Keep on keepin' on", Daddy - DEBBIE SINCLAIR
