Rep. Bam Carney appointed to key SLC committee post

Appointment of 51st KY House District - Taylor & Adair Counties - by Speaker Jeff Hoover (Jamestown, KY) is for a two year period.

From Daisy Olivo, Communications Director, House Republican Leadership

FRANKFORT, KY (6 Jun 2017) - Rep. Bam Carney, a Campbellsville Republican and Chairman of the House Education Committee, has been appointed by Speaker Jeff Hoover to the Education Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC).

The two-year appointment lasts until the end of 2018. Since its inception, members of the SLC's Education Committee have focused on building a world-class system of education in the United States, in order to ensure a quality, well-equipped workforce for the future. Some issue areas examined include student achievement, workforce development, college and career-readiness, educational technology, school accountability, and teacher recruitment and retainment.

"It is an honor for me to serve on this committee with numerous other educators and policymakers, and I'm extraordinarily grateful to Speaker Hoover for his confidence in me," said Chairman Carney. "Education is constantly changing, and it is critical that we continue discussing new ways to innovate our schools and teach our children, so that our state and nation can continue producing the best and the brightest young minds."

The SLC's mission is to foster and encourage intergovernmental cooperation among its 15 member states. Committee members are appointed by their chamber's legislative leadership, and each committee elects its own officers.
