CW3 Doug Nobles historic Memorial Day speech text It's was a VFW Memorial Day service which gave a last opportunity for Adair Countians to bid farewell to the old VFW Hall at 411 Fairground Street. It wasn't expected to be so big, but it was on an absolutely glorious Sunday afternoon, 29 May 2017. Nor was the crowd expected to be so large, but it was. Almost every seat in the hall was filled. The speaker, CW3 Doug Nobles, husband of Laura Nobles, and son of Billy Nobles and grandson of Louise & Tommy Nobles, filled in at a late moment on his leave from duty at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, and delivered as eloquent an address as any in memory. He graciously shares the written text from that addess here: Click on headline for address with photo(s) By CW3 Doug Nobles It is an honor to be here today with so many of my fellow Americans who understand that freedom has a cost. While we mourn the many losses today of those who gave that ultimate sacrifice, there is no doubt that many of us as Americans share a proud heritage of duty and honor built throughout history forged in the heat of past and present battles. Today out of all days, I hope we as a society can take a moment and remember those heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice, those who are all too often set to the wayside or sometimes forgotten. We sometimes can be forgetful of the sacrifices made by our members of the military. Sacrifices that their family members cannot and will not ever forget. Please, I ask of you, as we sit here today, keep those families in your hearts as they have paid a sacrifice as well. The American soldier lives their lives in a brotherhood with bonds formed like no other. We never forget that brother or sister to our left or right. It is something that affects us forever. I pray that today we as a society can remember them as well. President John F Kennedy said, "A nation reveals its self not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers." We take the time today to remember those men, those soldiers we have served with. Soldiers and brothers like those I have served with. Those soldiers who died for our freedom and safety. Soldiers like those I have served with and lost: SSG Nathan Mudd, PVT FeWayne White, SGT Eric Hernandez, CPT Adam Snyder, SGT Adam Kohlhass and SPC Stephen Kristoferson. Does anyone here today have any names of fallen that they would like to mention? We pray for them and their sacrifices as well as their families and the sacrifices they have endured as well. Your attendance here today shows the deepest respect to those who gave us the greatest gift and of those who are still fighting on the battlefield for that gift today. As general John Logan once said, "Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present over to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic." I would ask as you leave here and go about the rest of your day to keep the fallen in your minds and their families in your hearts, for it is their immense sacrifices that have helped to keep our country safe and free. Thank you for your time today and again I am honored to have the opportunity to come here today and speak. Thank you all for your attendance and God bless.
