Flash flooding has created serious travel problems in the area tonight. Not only are there overflows on roadways in the usual low lying areas, but fast moving water is flowing like mountain creek beds just below crests.

Water was over Jamestown Street in the Dip at around 7:30pmCT, not from Town Creek, but from driveway and parking lot runoff.

Fairground Street between Lindsey Wilson Street and the KY 206 Bridge over Russell Creek, had pooling, and Bull Run Road had several pooling problems which made driving tricky, with hydroplaning hazards.

Bull Run Lane, from Bull Road Road to Liberty Road, had potentially life threatening currents across the roadbed, none from Bull Run Creek, which was raging at around 7:30pmCT and had built up numerous small lakes along the sides of the roads, but from overflows from the fields and pastures.

Debris on roadways are a problem, though so far word has not reached us of any tornado wind or lightning damage, but motorists should still maintain caution, particularly in the northern Adair County, Taylor County, and Casey Counties in this region.

Larry Smith, FM 99.9 the Big Dawg, has reported that flash flooding made W Main Street in Campbellsville impassable at the Buckhorn Creek Bridge.

Run-off continues to create problems on Fairground Street

2017-05-28 - Fairground Street at Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) .
Runoff from higher levels continues to be a problem at this point on Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, creating issues for homeowner Larry Hutchison, who, ironically is an expert in the field. This photo was taken at 7:44pmCT, probably after the stream had slowed down. City Council members are monitoring the situation, hoping to find relief for the so far too patient home owner. The situation is expected to be on the agenda of the next city council meeting or a topic in the Council or Mayor's comments.- EW

Junior Jct, this morning - it worked perfectly in flash flood

2017-05-28 - Intersection Campbellsville Road & Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) .
Before the Commonwealth built this intersection and re-routed Town Creek under it, traffic tie-ups were almost constant, and heavy rains could send the stream over Campbellsville Street, sometimes flooding buildings. Since its construction traffic flow has been accelerated, and flooding is non-existent. This photo was taken Sunday morning, May 28, 2017. An photo attempt Saturday, May 27, 2017, failed, but eye-witness of the location affirms the effectiveness of this low cost, competent improvement through collaboration of local citizen Junior Stotts and KDA District 8 engineers. - EW
