Dorothy Schickel, 91, Cumberland Co., KY (1925-2017)

She was a member of a leading Cumberland County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Barton Thrasher & Vela Poindexter Thrasher and the widow of Dr. Joseph Schickel. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and had been the office manager for many years for her husband's medical practice. Her final resting place will be in Burkesville, KY.

Dorothy Schickel, age 91 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at NHC Healthcare.

Funeral service will be Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2pmCT, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY with burial in Burkesville Cemetery. The family requests visitation from 4pm until 8pmCT, on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.



Dorothy Schickel, 91, Cumberland Co., KY (1925-2017)

Dorothy was born on November 18, 1925 in Cumberland County, KY to the late Barton Thrasher & Vela Poindexter Thrasher. She died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 91 years, five months, and 19 days.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and had been the office manager for many years for her husband's medical practice.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph H. Schickel; two brothers, James Thrasher, and Stanley Keith Thrasher; two sisters, Imogene Thrasher York, and Brenda Thrasher Cook; and a special aunt, Ruby Hood. Survivors include:
  • One stepdaughter: Jo Ann Hilliker of Gainesville, FL

  • Two brothers: Kenneth L. Thrasher and his wife Datha, and Rondal B. Thrasher and his wife Marie all of Burkesville, KY

  • Brother-in-law: Winfred Cook of Burkesville, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
