COLUMBIA, KY - (Fri 7 Apr 2017) - The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team swept a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against Cumberlands (KY) Friday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

The Blue Raiders (28-7, 14-0 MSC) have now won 17 consecutive games. Lindsey Wilson took game one 12-3 (five innings) and won game two 6-2. Sydney Fourman, Cassie Kooker and Samantha Luckett all recorded a home run today.




GAME 1 - Lindsey Wilson 12, Cumberlands 3 (five innings)
Lindsey Wilson struck first in the first inning scoring three runs aided by two Cumberlands (13-25, 5-13 MSC) errors. Kooker ledoff the inning with a single and then advanced to second on a stolen base. After Callum Pilgrim was walked and Fourman was hit by a pitch, Amber Foukes hit a sacrifice fly to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. Pilgrim came around to score on an error by the shortstop and Fourman also came around to score on an error to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders added five runs in the second inning on four hits and two Patriots errors. Foukes drove in the first run of the inning on a fielder's choice. Fourman came around to score on a bobble by the center fielder to give the Blue Raiders a 5-0 lead. Luckett drove in two runs on a single to right field and Abby Whelan also recorded an RBI single to give Lindsey Wilson an 8-0 lead.

After Kooker reached on a wild throw and Pilgrim singled, Fourman hit a three-run home run for her ninth home run of the season to increase the lead to 11-0. Kailin Yantz led off the fourth inning with a double and Aryanna Cannoy drove in Yantz to make the score 11-1. The Blue Raiders would add another run in the bottom of the fourth to make 12-1.

Morgan Elliston hit a two-run single in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 12-3.

Casey Bryan (13-3) picked up the victory pitching 4-1/3 innings while allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. Fourman drove in three runs in the game, Foukes and Luckett each drove in two runs.


GAME 2 - Lindsey Wilson 6, Cumberlands 2
Hayley Kilburn was hit by a pitch with two outs and the bases loaded in the first inning to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Cumberlands would not be able to push across any more runs in the inning after a ground out ended the inning. Foukes drove in Kooker in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1.

After Back-to-back singles and a Lindsey Wilson error to begin the second inning loaded the bases, Bryan came in to replace Taylor Slade. After Bryan hit the first batter she faced to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead, she retired the next three batters all by strike out. Luckett hit a solo home run in the second inning to tie the game 2-2.

Kooker led off the bottom of the third inning with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. Fourman singled to right field to give the Blue Raiders a 3-2 lead. Kooker hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning increasing the lead to 6-2.

Bryan (14-3) pitched six innings of relief while allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out 10. Kooker went 3-for-3 in the game driving in three runs.
