FRANKFORT, KY (Fri 7 Apr 2017) - Attorney General Andy Beshear today announced a Campbell County Grand Jury has indicted a Newport man on charges of wanton endangerment in the first degree and fourth DUI offense.

The charges stem from a Jan. 1, 2017, DUI traffic stop by a Bellevue Police Officer who discovered Matthew Knoebber, 30, of Newport, had his 3-year-old child in the back seat of his vehicle. Knoebber was alone in the vehicle with the child.

Bellevue Police arrested Knoebber for DUI, his fourth offense in 10 years. Knoebber was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and speeding.

Wanton endangerment first degree and DUI fourth offense are both Class D felonies, carrying a penalty of one to five years in prison. Both drug charges are misdemeanors.

Beshear's Special Prosecutions Unit is handling the case.

A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Knoebber is set to be arraigned April 17 at noon in Division One, Campbell Circuit Court.
