Calvin Claywell: The boundaries of Chance, Adair Co., KY

By Ed Waggener

In answer to a request, Calvin Claywell sent his definition of the limits of Chance, KY, with the Last Chance Store at its hub:
The Chance area, to my best (gestimated) knowledge would be Hwy 1952 continued on Chance road to 704 area, Jay Wheeler to Rock Lick Creek area, Walnut Grove road to 704 area, Charlie Morrison road to Harrods Fork Creek area. The Last Chance store would be the hub. Right or wrong??, that is my best guess. Hope this will be helpful. Last Chance store is quite a memorable place. CALVIN CLAYWELL.
Thanks Calvin Claywell: I agree wholeheartedly. We've never been able to clearly define so many Adair County places without challenges. Putman County and Burton Ridge come to mind. Defining boundaries for them usually end in heated debates. I like know these limits, and if there were anything to Fiscal Court, signs would be erected. And, for the record, if you are challenged to match wits, arm wrestle, or participate in a duel, we wish you luck. Adair County people get het up over serious issues like Chance. - EW
