Guy Babin: Spring on Cool Springs Creek, a time turkey love Love among the Cow Pies. The Spring time urge to mate, inspires memories of the mating game, envy of his 'inept yet handsome hound dog,' told in the philosophical, humorous manner of another great thinker and author, Max Shulman, though there is happiness in the romance, far better than idealistic Shulman character who described a perfect love as "all dispair and no fulfillment." Click on headline for feature length treatise and photo(s) By Guy Babin Gradyville, Paradise, USA Spring turkey season is here it seems, at least in the bottoms of Cool Springs Creek. I can identify with the pictured toms in the accompanying picture, strutting around amongst registered angus "deposits" trying their best to impress the girls. Been there and done that--without the handsome plumage mind you... Jake, my somewhat inept yet handsome hound dog, has a way with the girls. Why else would I cart his no-account long-legged non-productive self all about our beloved Adair County in his favorite old Chevy truck? Not quite as dumb as I look, ya see, I get the benefit of his feminine attention that compensates a bit for my homeliness. "He's so cute", and "He's such a handsome boy" are typical feminine commentary. Never directed toward yours-truly mind you. Tom Turkey 'n me aren't that different.... shuffling around in the ca-ca, trying to get lucky, without getting shot in the process. Jake and his handsome ilk, have no clue about our homely plight.
