News from Lindsey Wilson College
COLUMBIA, KY (Tue 21 Mar 2017) - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team was defeated by Indiana Southeast 7-4 Tuesday at Egnew Park.
Connor Anderson drove in two runs for the Blue Raiders (15-13) while Jayden Jackson extended his reached base streak to 24 games. Jackson also recorded a hit extending his hitting streak to seven games which is the longest by a Lindsey Wilson player this season.
After two straight one out walks Nicholas Lugo put the Grenadiers (15-7) on the board first with a three-run home run. Steven Paredes led off the bottom of the first inning with a single then advanced to second on a balk. Paredes then advanced to third on a ground out. A line out and fly out ended the Blue Raider scoring chance.
Logan Barnes reached on an error in the top of the fourth inning and later came around to score to increase the Grenadier lead to 4-0. Jackson began the bottom of the fourth inning with a single and Jan Carlos Ortiz drew a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Jackson and Ortiz advanced on a wild pitch then Jackson scored on an Anderson groundout to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Blue Raiders would fail to push another run across after a strikeout and ground out ended the inning.
Clay Benefield singled home a run in the fifth inning to increase the Indiana Southeast lead to 5-1. The Grenadiers added another run on a single and a bases loaded walk to take a 7-1 lead.
Lindsey Wilson put up two runs in the seventh inning aided by four Indiana Southeast wild pitches and one error. Ben Heideman led off the inning with a single to right field then Vincent Boils drew a walk. Heideman and Boils advanced to second and third on a throw by the pitcher and would both come around to score on two wild pitches to trim the lead to 7-3.
Jackson led off the eighth inning with a walk then advanced to second on a passed ball and went to third on a wild pitch. Anderson drove in his second run of the game hitting a single to shallow left field scoring Jackson to cut the deficit to 7-4.
Chris Carns (1-2) took the loss pitching 3-1/3 innings while allowing three earned runs and giving up two hits.
