BARBOURVILLE, KY (Tue 21 Feb 2017) - The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team swept a doubleheader against Union (KY) Tuesday afternoon at Union Field.

The Blue Raiders (6-2) started the doubleheader with a 6-1 victory. Lindsey Wilson won 10-1 in game two in five innings. Amanda McIver combined to go 4-for-7 on the day driving in three runs.



Game 1 - LWC 6. Union 1

Syndey Fourman got the Blue Raiders on the board in the first inning with an RBI single that scored Callum Pilgrim. Bailey Mize scored the second run of the inning after an error on a bunt by Amber Foukes. Fourman scored on a groundout to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Bulldogs (2-5) got on the board in the second inning on a Haley Lyell solo homerun. After an error and a walk Union had runners on first and second with two outs, a groundout to the shortstop ended the Bulldog threat.

Lindsey Wilson increased its lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning on a Foukes single. The Blue Raiders put two more on the board in the sixth inning on two Bulldog errors. Casey Bryan (3-0) pitched a complete game allowing six hits while giving up one run. She recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts falling one short of matching a career-high that was set on April 21, 2014

Game 2 - LWC 10. Union 1

The Blue Raiders took advantage of early Bulldog miscues putting up five runs in the first inning on two hits and three errors. Union had a runner on third in the second inning that ended up getting stranded after a line out and a pop out.

Lindsey Wilson put one on the board in the third inning after a McIver solo shot increased the lead to 6-0. The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the third inning after a Blue Raider error.

The Blue Raiders scored four runs on two hits and two errors to increase their lead to 10-1 ending the game. Abby Whelan pitched a complete five inning game giving up five hits while allowing one unearned run.
