Betty Loy Murphy, 72, Adair County, KY (1944-2017)

She was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church at Breeding and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Hansel & Rosa Hill Loy, and the widow of Laymar Murphy. She was the martriarch of a large, respected family. She leaves 19 direct and 25 step living descendants.

Betty Murphy age 72 years of Columbia, KY passed away Monday February 13, 2017 at 1:40AmCT, at the home of her daughter Rhonda Burton after an illness

Funeral service will be at 1pmCT, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ronnie Janes officiating. Interment in Antioch Cemetery, 3422 Wheeler Hill Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: William Helm, Michael Burton, James Murphy, Derick Murphy, Jared Stargel and David Wheat.

Betty Loy Murphy, 72, Adair County, KY (1944-2017)

She was born on October 16, 1944 in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of the late Hansel & Rosa Hill Loy of Adair County, KY. She died Monday, February 13, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 72 years, three months, and 28 days.

She was the widow of Laymar Murphy who preceded her in death April 1, 2005. She was also preceded in death by one daughter Mary Ann Murphy, and one step-daughter Della Mae Mendoza

Survivors include:
  • Two daughters: Tamra (Darrell) Helm of Breeding, KY; and Rhonda (Tony) Burton of Columbia, KY

  • Three Step-daughters: Leona (Phillip) Akin of Columbia, KY; Charlotte Faye (Bobby) York of Russell Springs, KY; and Carlotte George of Russell Springs, KY

  • Three brothers: Freddie Loy, Raymond Loy & Harold Loy

  • One sister: Peggy Furkin of Columbia, KY

  • Six grandchildren

  • Six step-grandchildren

  • Ten great-grandchildren

  • Sixteen step-great grandchildren

  • One great great grandchild

  • Several nieces, nephew

  • And a host of other relatives and friends survive
Betty was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church at Breeeding and a homemaker.
