She retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after many years of service. Mrs. Newton enjoyed sewing and made several quilts throughout her life. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Pitman Valley Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Newton, 78, of Campbellsville, KY, departed this life on Monday, February 6, 2017, in Campbellsville, KY.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Dorothy Jean Newton on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 10amCT/11amET, in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY. Bro Dannie Nelson will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3878 Greensburg Road, Campbellsville, KY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Tuesday, February 7, 2017.



Mrs. Dorothy Jean Newton, Taylor Co./Marion native (1938-2017)


Mrs. Dorothy Jean Newton of Campbellsville was born in Marion County, Kentucky on June 22, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Lillian (Gribbins) Smothers. She departed this life on Monday, February 6, 2017, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY. at the age of 78 years, seven months, and 15 days. She was married to Lonzie Gerald Newton, who preceded her in death on October 12, 2016.

She retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after many years of service. Mrs. Newton enjoyed sewing and made several quilts throughout her life. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Pitman Valley Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory:

  • One daughter: Cathy Wilson of Campbellsville, KY

  • One son: Dewayne Wilson and companion Terry Lile of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two step-children: Mary Smith and husband Scotty, and Jerry Newton, all of Louisville, KY

  • One brother and two sisters: Nancy Lemmon of Nancy, KY, Geneva Person of Green County, KY; and Jesse Smothers and wife Dianne of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Jessica Loveland and husband Calvin of Campbellsville, KY; and Malissa Clemons and husband Nathan of Russellville, KY

  • Two step-grandchildren: Brandon Smith and Meagan Smith, both of Louisville, KY

  • A great-granddaughter: Chloe Clemons of Russellville, KY

  • Five step-great grandchildren: Hunter Smith of Louisville, KY; Kayla Loveland of Bloomfield, KY; Jamie Loveland of Campbellsville, KY; Jakob Loveland of Campbellsville, KY; and Dylan Loveland of Springfield, KY

  • And a host of other family and friends
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Smothers.
