Campbellsville Elementary cafeteria to open soon By Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS) Campbellsville Elementary School students will soon eat lunch in their brand new cafeteria. Construction at CES is nearing completion, with workers concentrating now on finishing the school's new cafeteria. New equipment has been installed in the kitchen, and cafeteria workers are undergoing necessary training to use it. Lunch tables will arrive in coming days, and, once the cafeteria is complete, students will no longer eat their breakfast and lunch in the school's gymnasium. The new CES main entrance has been completed and is now open. As such, students and parents should enter the building through the main entrance now, not the side entrance as they had been. The new CES main office is also open, with administrators having moved into their new suites during the holiday break. Overall, officials say construction will be complete very soon. The CES project is contracted to be completed by Monday, Jan. 16, but officials say they hope to be finished before that date. New restrooms were completed at the school and opened, and work has been completed on the new bell tower in the front of the school. Landscaping has been completed outside the new entrances to the building. Four new classrooms have been in use for the entire 2016-2017 school year. Ground was broken for the project in a special ceremony in March, and contractors began working on the construction full time after the 2015-2016 school year ended. The project is estimated at being completed in 10 months. Interruption to instruction has been kept at a minimum. There will be a ceremony in coming weeks to celebrate the completion of the project. Renovations planned at CES include the addition of four new classrooms, a new HVAC unit, a fire suppression system, interior finishes, new kitchen and cafeteria, new restrooms, renovation of existing classrooms, a new playground for preschool students and work to administrative suites, parking areas and the front facade. Once renovations are complete at CES, and then later at CMS, all fourth- and fifth-grade students will be housed at CES, making it a more traditional elementary school, and the CMS building will better suit the needs of a middle school. The CES project will cost about $9.7 million. N3D Group is the architect for the project, and Codell Construction is construction manager.
