One of the most moving moments following the stunning announcement of Supertendent Alan W. Reed that he would be retiring effective December 31, 2016, was when Adair County High School Principal Troy Young read a prepared statement:

"Henry Ford once said, 'Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right.' It's a mindset. Preferably a growth mindset.

"A growth mindset is developed through deliberate practice, new learning strategies, and time devoted to improvement, something I feel that this board and district has embraced and it started right at the top with this board and some of the tough decision that the board and Mr. Reed had to make.

"Everyone by now knows about the results of the last election as it pertained to the Adair County School baord. I am here on behalf of Adair County High School to personally thank our outgoing board members, Ms. Lasley and Mr. Burton, and to thank our current board members Ms. Burton, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Harvey.

"Also, a heartfelt thanks to Mr. Reed for giving us the tools to be successful through his work with the board and forward thinking for growth. It is a thankless job that you deal with on a daily basis, but it is with your support that our district reached a proficient level and border line distinguished for the first time ever.

"We have a beautiful campus that is the talk of everyone who comes to visit and it came without sacrificing anything in our classrooms, and most importantly, to our students.

' "I challenge my faculty and staff on a weekly basis to respect and vallue people no matter what the situation, to have more good days than bad days, to lean on each other in times of need, to smile, to laugh, to have fun, but most importantly, to continue to have a growth mindset.

"Everyone knows and understands that with new board members comes a changing of dynamics, and the challenge for this new board will be to continue to grow us forward in a positive direction and continue to build our district on that growth mindset."

One of the most moving moments in the Thursday, November 17, 2016 Adair County School Board Meeting, following the stunning announcement - for many who had one - of Superintendent Alan W. Reed that he would be retiring effective December 31, 2016, was when Adair County High School Principal Troy Young read a prepared statement. At left is Adair County Schools Dean of Students Robbie Harmon. The announcement has hit the community like a bombshell, with many wondering about the future of the county after what has not only been, inarguably, the most successful tenure ever in the Adair County Superintendent's Office, but also one of the most successful tenures ever in Kentucky. - EW
