Columbia Walmart & UCB 11 Nov 2016 VFW program big success Event marked a time of historic transition in Adair County, KY, which, perhaps, made attendance imperative for many. It was the last time the Veterans Day program would be given at the Fairgrounds location. Next year, if all goes as planned, the VFW will be occupying a spacious, 5,000 s.f. post hall at 500 Greenhills Road, across Russell Creek, in Columbia, and the old hall, with so many memories, will be a thing of the past. Official totals have not yet been received, but a cursory count of the vehicles in the one time carnival midway, on the track, and in front of the soon-to-be replaced VFW Post 6097 building at 411 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, indicated between 140-150 cars and trucks carried those to the event. The program included: The Welcome by VFW Post 6097 Commander Joe Hare; the presentation and retirement of the post colors by the Adair County VFW color guard; the National Anthem rendered by Jan Overstreet; the Pledge of Allegiance led by VFW Post 6097 Quartermaster Ronnie Holt; the prayer by the Post Chaplain; remarks by Andy Watts of Columbia Walmart Supercenter; the introduction of the speaker by Ronnie Holt, the main address by speaker Joe Hare, followed by special music by Jan Overstreet, and closing remarks by Commander Hare. The program was organized by Robin Smith of Columbia Walmart Supercenter. A number of local supporters were recognized, in addition to the program's main sponsors, Walmart and United Citizens Bank of Southern Kentucky. They are: Betty's OK Country Cooking, Trifecta Printing, J & F Variety, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Sonic, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Prairie Farms. Terry Moore of Allen Moore & Son Electric, Columbia, KY, provided the sound for the event. The WAVE, 92.7 FM, and ColumbiaMagazine.com were recognized for promoting and covering the breakfast.
